The United Kingdom says no to the plans to import solar and wind power from Morocco, the government announced on Thursday.

The idea was to transport electricity via underwater cables from North Africa to supply millions of British households with electricity.

But according to the government, the project is not in line with the goal of investing in domestic electricity production. The risks are also considered high when it comes to operation, delivery, and safety.

According to the company Xlinks, which is responsible for the project, the imported solar and wind energy would have contributed to lower electricity prices in the United Kingdom while the country would reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by about ten percent.
