R Kelly requests that his sentence for among other things child pornography, extortion and bribery be shortened. This based on new allegations that prison staff tried to murder Kelly.
According to a court filing on Tuesday, June 10, R Kelly requested to be released from the Butner prison in North Carolina. According to the R'n'B singer, prison staff had hired a fellow inmate from the white power group Aryan brotherhood to murder him. According to R Kelly, the motive was that his cellmate had stolen private messages between him and his lawyer and shared them with the prosecutors, which would show corruption in the legal process.
R Kelly's lawyer Beau Brindley made a statement that Billboard has taken part of, where he said that "the evidence we have before us shows that the justice department has armed itself to pursue a public figure with corrupt and criminal means."
Brindley added that Kelly's legal team is seeking a pardon from President Donald Trump who "is the only one with both the power and the courage" to limit alleged corruption within the prosecutor's office.
